That’s right folks, about 30″ inches of snow and it didn’t stop us! It was a full on blizzard yesterday with similar weather forecasted for today. However, like the famous phrase goes, “If you don’t like the weather in Utah, wait five minutes.” We didn’t have a bluebird day by any means, and it was COLD but it didn’t snow on us today. It looked as though up high in the mountains it was coming down, but not where we were. With an avalanche danger rating of HIGH, we decided to keep it mellow and low angle for safety. We had a great time. Trekking through that much new snow is definitely a challenging workout. I went out with a couple this morning and had a family of six this afternoon. We were seeing quite a few moose tracks. They looked rather fresh, seeing as though we had all that new snow and not any people out there! Then all the sudden we spotted one sitting under a tree. She looked like she was about to doze off. She barely even noticed us. So, we just stared at her beauty and took some photos. We went on ahead a did a big loop. When we came back, she was in the same spot.
For my afternoon tour, I was hoping she was still there. She was. This time though, she was standing and eating. Again, more pictures were taken and we started to continue and then spotted another one right close to her. Wow. Two moose at once. That was a treat. Waited a few minutes and began to hike again. Several moments later, saw yet another moose!! The only thing I can think, is that last year in this same area, there was a mother moose and two babies all winter. I am wondering if it is the same family back for yet another winter! We had a great time, regardless that the sun never successfully came out and regardless that the wind was a bit cold at times because we had 30″ of new, beautiful, untracked snow, and only the moose to share it with!
