Mountain Vista Touring, LLC has teamed up with Klean Kanteen www.kleankanteen.com to offer a safer, more environmentally friendly way to hydrate on the trail; reusable water bottles.
Reusable water bottles are safer:
- Plastic bottles of water are primarily made up of Bisphenol A (BPA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). When these materials are ingested, they can unknowingly cause harmful effects on the essential functions of the body.
- Studies have also shown that the majority of bottled water is no safer than the tap water in our homes. The FDA regulates our tap water but has a harder time regulating bottled water since it is a private entity.
Reusable water bottles are more environmentally friendly:
- Recent statistics show that Americans consume 29+ BILLION plastic water bottles annually. For each liter of bottled water purchased, 3 liters of water are used to make that bottle! You do the math on that one.
- Also, to produce, package and to transport a liter of bottled water takes between 1,100 and 2,000 x more energy than delivering the same amount of tap water. If you can imagine each bottle of water you are drinking is 2/3 full of water and 1/3 full of oil, that give you a pretty accurate picture of what is going on here. It essentially takes 1/3 the amount of oil (to water ratio) to manufacture, ship and store that bottle of water. Just to produce enough plastic bottles for worldwide bottled water consumption takes 50 billion BARRELS of oil annually.
We use Brita filters for all of our daily water consumption. Brita is the #1 household water filter system. For more information on Brita, please visit www.Brita.com
